Ate Waza-Percussive Techniques

"Ate Waza" covers any technique
that utilizes impact to accomplish its goal.
Almost all percussive movements fit within
the Shin Shin Mugendo infinity pattern.
In Shin Shin Mugendo, the basic arm movement
can easily be used as a block against punches or kicks
and then instantly be used as a counter strike.

The figure eight movement is so effective at blocking
that Ben Otake's Shin Shin Mugendo includes an exercise
in which one hand is used to block continuous attacks.
The advantage to blocking in this fashion
is that the movement does not stop at the block.
Instead, the hand can continue to the next block
or quickly to a counter strike.
Thrusting attacks and kicks can easily be
incorporated with the basic movements.
